Woman lights a candle to the Christmas lottery in Spain - and sets her home on fire

A woman who lit a candle to her El Gordo lottery ticket hoping it would bring her good luck, achieved an unexpected result when her flat caught fire. It happened in a second floor flat in Calle Hospital in the centre of A Coruña, in Galicia, Spain.

La Voz de Galicia reports that the flat was completely gutted by the blaze, but other flats in the block were not affected. Thankfully there were no injuries although eight people and a baby had to be evacuated for a time.

Pilar left the candle burning when she went to collect her son from school and take him to hospital.

The fire brigade were able to gain access to the flat via a window which had been left open, and were at the scene when Pilar returned.

‘Look what a prize I have won!’, she told the local paper.
