Businessmen have attacked the call made by unions for a stoppage on January 27

Basque trade unions have called a general strike for the 27th of January in the Basque Country and Navarra.

The strike, called by ELA, LAB, STEE_EILAS, EHNE and HIRU is in protest at the planned pension reforms, and it follows the national general strike last June 29.

Meanwhile the cross-party commission on pensions, known as the Pacto de Toledo, has concluded its report on reform, agreeing on an increase in the number of working years used in pension calculation, but failing to agree on the Government’s wish to delay the retirement age.

The Basque Businessmen’s Circle commented that the unions do not understand the severity of the situation, and last thing that the economic situation needs is a general strike.
