Two small patera boats have were intercepted on Friday. A small Patera boat with 12 men on board was intercepted by the Guardia Civil 15 miles off Cabo Roig, with the occupants then taken to the Torrevieja fishing port.

There was at least one child among the group who told the authorities that they had been three days without eating and had set out from Algeria. The Spanish Red Cross supplied them with a high calorie meal and dry clothes.

A second boat with 14 people on board was intercepted off Cartagena, Murcia. They were detected by the SIVE high tech radar system and are reported to be in good health.
