| The new service, operational on December 18, will cut journey time down to 1.5 hours It’s been confirmed to the EFE news agency that the King and Queen, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, will officially inaugurate the new high speed rail line between Madrid and Valencia on December 18. The AVE service will cut journey time between the two cities down to just over an hour and a half, with 15 trains in service on the line in each direction every day. Eleven of those will be direct. Tickets for the new service have been sale for the past 3 weeks and, up until November 27, more than 34,000 had already been sold. The normal price for a one-way ticket is €79.80, but can be reduced to just under €32 if bought online 2 weeks in advance.
