Junta promotes Andalucía as a Christmas destination

It's the first time such an advertising campaign has been run at this time of the year

The tourism department of the Junta de Andalucía is to spend 1.1 million € promoting Andalucía this Christmas. Regional Councillor for Tourism and Trade, Luciano Alonso, said that despite the controllers and the weather there would be more tourists visiting the region in 2010 compared to last year. He said that between January and October this year 0.6% more tourists came to the region than last year at the same time, that there had been a 1.3% growth in overnight hotel stays, and the average spend per tourist was up 7%.

It’s the first time that such a campaign has been placed at Christmas and goes under the slogan ‘Andalucía, the best gift at Christmas’.

The campaign runs from Thursday 9 to January 5 and will be concentrated on five countries, Britain, Germany, France, Portugal and Italy.

It will highlight the Sierra Nevada, rural accommodation in nature parks, the monuments of Andalucía, local cuisine with the typical Christmas products, and events such as the Three Kings parades and Christmas concerts.
