Ex Valencia TV chief alleged to have taken 500,000 € backhander
It's the latest discovery by the police investigating the Gürtel corruption case
The companies at the centre of the Gürtel corruption case have been revealed to have paid a 500,000 € backhander to the ex director of RTVV, the regional Valencia television, ahead of the visit of the Pope to the city in 2006.
The money was given to Pedro García Gimeno in exchange for the contracts to set up the scenarios, P.A.’s and other items, and the benefits made from the high prices charged were then shared out between those at the centre of the Gürtel corruption, Francisco Correa, Pablo Crespo and the man known as El Bigotes, Álvaro Pérez.
The details come from a police report, drawn up by the UDEF Central Fiscal and Economic Crime Unit, which was added to the summary of the Gürtel case on November 25.
They found documents on a pen drive belonging to the alleged accountant in the scheme, José Luis Izquierdo.
It’s thought that García Gimeno spent his backhander on the purchase of land in Zamora via two companies, Proinsa and Teconsa. The latter is linked directly back to Francisco Correa, and was given the job of setting up the sound and vision facilities for the Pope’s visit
